Stefano, a native of Italy, has been a horseman his entire life. He began riding trail horses at the age of 3 and put his focus on reining horses when he was in his teens. In 2002 Stefano had the opportunity to come to the United States to learn more about reining from NRHA Million Dollar Rider Tim McQuay. His 3 month internship turned into 6 years of professional riding for McQuay Stables. Stefano treasured the opportunity to learn from one of the all time best Horsemen. Under Tim McQuay’s tutelage, he made his debut in the United States and quickly garnered success in the show pen.
In December 2007, Stefano started Calcagnini Reining Horses based in Collinsville, Texas at Petska Performance Horses.

Stefano Calcagnini and Annies Custom Pistol topped the Level 4 Open preliminaries and returned to win the finals at the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity yesterday in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Their score of 225.5 was worth $18,277! (pictured with Annies Custom Pistol) – Shannon Reid, Stefano Calcagnini and Hershel Reid.
Whiz Starbrite and Stefano Calcagnini were Open Finalist everytime shown. Tulsa Futurity–NRHA Futurity and NRBC Classic Derby. Owned by Amabile and Strusiner.
Stefano Calcagnini and KR Crackerjack won the championship in the Tamarack Ranch Developing Horse Futurity in both the Level 4 and Level 3 with a score of 219.5 for owner Donadeo Stables ASD. For Calcagnini it was two in a row as he won the Developing Horse Futurity in 2017 as well. He and KR Crackerjack earned a total of $5,603 for their efforts in the Tamarack Ranch Developing Horse Futurity.
